Visited this restaurant at 3pm one afternoon, so the lunchtime crowd had emptied and the evening clientele had yet to arrive.

The venue was spotlessly clean as were the toilets
Staff were incredibly friendly and attentive
Food was exquisite, ordered a rare steak and it was delivered beautifully cooked and extremely well presented on the plate. At last a restaurant that remembers how to cook a steak properly.
The city of meat was absolutely lean with no fat or gristle at all.
We ate from the Prix Fix lunchtime menu, so two meals, two desserts and drinks for 35 pound was extremely good value, considering the quality of the food.

Wonderful location next to the Philharmonic Hall and directly halfway between the two cathedrals.

I'm afraid this was an intensely average experience: service-indifferent ( the waitress kept saying "Are you done?" suggesting that we were in a canteen that was closing soon); food-average (my wife's boil in the bag fish 'special' looked really dull. Special it wasn't) ; decor- humane. I'm not entirely surprised that Ego was 3/4 empty on a Saturday evening. If you were lost in Liverpool and looking for a reasonable meal then fine. But as a destination: I don't think so.

I have been a visitor to Ego for over 10 years now and have never been disappointed. Cozy little place with a great atmosphere. Excellent food and friendly and attentive service. Join their club for email updates, access to offers and a free meal on your birthday.
