Kathmandu City. Holding the palaces of Malla and Shah Kings who used to rule the
City in the past, Durbar Square unfolds the history of the
City. There is a statue of Lord Hanuman, devotee of Lord Ram at the entrance of the palace and because of which,
Kathmandu Durbar Square is also known as Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square. The famous cultural and religious sites of
Kathmandu Durbar Square are Basantapur Tower, Kumari House where Living Goddess of
Nepal lives, large statue of Kal Bhairav, Trailokya Mohan Narayan Temple, Hanuman statue, Ashok Vinayak, Dhansa or kabindrapur, Taleju Temple, Kotilingeshwara Mahadev Temple, Indrapur Temple, Vishnu Temple, etc.

Pashupatinath Temple: Situated on the outskirts of
Kathmandu City, Pashupatinath Temple is one of the holiest temples of Hindus. It is dedicated to Pashupatinath, Lord of Animals who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. Every year, thousands of Hindus especially from
Nepal and India visit this temple to pay homage to Lord Pashupatinath. On the
Day of Maha Shivaratri, one of the major festivals of Hindus, the temple gets crowded with over 700, 000 devotees. Located on both banks of Bagmati River, the temple is the symbol of Hindu’s art and architecture.
Swayambhunath Stupa: Swayambhunath Stupa, one of the major spiritual sites of Buddhists is also known as ‘Monkey Temple’ by tourists as monkeys are living in different parts of temple. Resting atop a hill, the stupa is located on the western edge of
Kathmandu valley. The stupa is one of the oldest and depicts the historical arts and architecture. It has lofty white dome and glittering golden spire with Buddha’s eyes and it is visible from different parts of the valley.
Boudhanatha Stupa: Another major spiritual site of Buddhists in the country other than Swayambhunath is Boudhanath Stupa. It is one of the largest spherical stupas in
Nepal because of its huge mandala. The stupa is situated about 11 kilometers from the center of
Kathmandu. Considered the center of Tibetan culture in
Kathmandu, Boudhanath Stupa is one of the major tourist areas in
Kathmandu City.
